Gynecologic Oncology is a specialised branch of oncology dedicated to the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of cancers of the female reproductive system, including cancers of the cervix, ovary, uterus (endometrium), vagina, vulva, and fallopian tubes.
How gynecologic oncology works
Management of gynecologic cancers is multimodal and individualised, based on the type and stage of cancer, tumor biology and histology, and patient age, general health, and fertility wishes. Treatment aims to eradicate cancer, preserve organ function and fertility when possible, reduce recurrence risk, and relieve symptoms and improve survival.
Precision, safety, and women-centred care
Modern gynecologic oncology emphasises image-guided and minimally invasive surgery, advanced radiation techniques with organ sparing, molecular and genetic testing, fertility preservation and sexual health counselling, and enhanced recovery protocols.
